Help us !!!!!!“, wrote Delphine after pushing the orange Alert us button. This mother wanted to sound the alarm after receiving her gas and electricity bill. “It is a call of despair that I launch…

However, the count brought positive news: Delphine touched up 568.59 euros. But the news did not come alone and Luminus, his energy supplier, is asking him for a deposit for next month of almost twice as much. “I am at 930 euros for gas and almost 300 euros for electricity“, she explains.

I contacted Luminus right away. I was told that it was possible to drop a little, but that with the forecasts, I would owe them 10,000 euros next year.

When we moved in May 2019, we paid 250 euros per month down payment. Today, we are asked for almost 1200“, is in despair Delphine who assures that she has”always retouched“for the 11 years that she has lived with her husband.

Faced with such a bill, Delphine and her husband are distraught. However, “we really don’t have mediocre salaries“, explains Delphine, file manager in a bank. Her husband works at Infrabel. “I put myself in the shoes of people who are in the greatest difficulty“, laments the mother of two children.

We try to find all the tricks

Faced with galloping inflation, the uncertain future gives Delphine fears. “It’s worrying for our children“.”Between the price of fuel, gas, electricity and shopping (not to mention the increase in other bills such as cadastral income…) we will all end up under bridges.”

To find solutions, the family “takes quicker showers. I haven’t turned on my heating yet. Usually we do it at the end of September, but I will try to delay as much as possible“.”We try to find all the tricks“, confides Delphine again.

“The price has more or less made x6”

Contacted by the editorial staff, Luminus was able to provide further explanations on the case of Delphine’s family.

For electricity consumption, “the customer has a comfy rate (fixed rate) which was renewed in May 2022“, specifies Nico De Bie, the company’s spokesperson. “As can be seen above, its price has +- made x4 for both day and night“.

In its next count (August 2022 – August 2023), there will also be a period of a few months at the future price which is likely to be even higher knowing that the September price is €0.83/kWh including VAT in day and €0.70/kWh VAT at night (about x10 compared to its previous price). This is therefore also taken into account in the revaluation of the deposit“, he further clarifies.

For gas consumption, “the customer has a comfy rate (fixed rate) which was renewed in April 2022. As can be seen (price excluding VAT), his price has been +- x6.”

In its next count (August 2022 – August 2023), it will also have a period of a few months at the future price which is likely to be even higher knowing that the September price is €0.33/kWh including VAT (about x 15 compared to its previous price). This is therefore also taken into account in the revaluation of the deposit. His deposit, which was €280/month, has been re-estimated at €970/month.

I am well aware of the difficulties of Belgians facing an unprecedented increase in their energy bill, due to international energy prices, which have been rising for more than a year”, adds the spokesperson.

“The electricity producer or energy supplier that we are also has no impact on international market prices, but each of us can, on the other hand, influence demand.”

“However, I should note here that this customer’s gas consumption is twice that of an average family, for no reason why.“, concludes the spokesperson for Luminus.
