This future “Assassin’s Creed”, one of the most popular series in its catalog since its launch in 2007, will be called “Mirage” and will take place in Baghdad, in medieval times.
The previous opus, “Valhalla”, marketed in 2020, exceeded the milestone of “billion euros in revenue” generated, underlined the boss of Ubisoft Yves Guillemot, during a press conference.
In addition, after announcing a partnership with Netflix in 2020 to offer several series of the “Assassin’s Creed” brand, Ubisoft has concluded an agreement to produce “three mobile games” on the platform, including an “Assassin’s Creed” precisely, a- he added.
Competing from other streaming services, such as Disney+ or HBO Max, Netflix is seeking to diversify, in particular by strengthening its position in video games.
The “Assassin’s Creed” saga has already been adapted into comics and cinema in 2016, illustrating Ubisoft’s strategy to adapt its productions for other media.
Nearly a dozen films and series based on its games are planned for the next few years, including “Raving Rabbids”.
In addition to this “Mirage” component in 2023, other “Assassin’s Creed” opuses are planned for the future, including one which will be set in Japan, according to Ubisoft.
Yves Guillemot also returned to the alliance forged this week with the Chinese Tencent to keep control of his group. According to him, this agreement gives him “the right to work with all (the partners) that we want”.
As part of this pact, Tencent, already present in the capital of the French video game champion, will invest 300 million euros and act in concert with the Guillemot family. Together, they will thus hold 24.9% of the group’s voting rights.
This agreement secures the family’s control over Ubisoft, while the video game sector is the scene of major consolidation maneuvers and the French publisher is attracting covetousness.
