Just a few days after the film’s release Pinocchio by Robert Zemeckis, the studio disney took advantage of the long-awaited D23 to unveil the first images of The little Mermaidhis next live-action.

The first images have fallen

Since Alice in Wonderlanddirected by Tim Burton, and released in 2010the Disney studio has embarked on a very large enterprise of adapting in live-action its own animation classics. A difficult undertaking, but one that brought in a lot of money for the big-eared studio. After Alice in Wonderland (2010), Maleficent (2014), Cinderella (2015), The jungle Book (2016), The beauty and the Beast (2017), Jean-Christophe and Winnie (2018), Dumbo (2019), Aladdin (2019), The Lion King (2019), Maleficent: Mistress of Evil (2019), The Lady and the Tramp (2019), Mulan (2020), cruella (2021) and Pinocchio (2022), there are still several films in anticipation.

Among them, The little Mermaidadaptation of the 1989 animated classic that launched the revival of the Disney studio at the dawn of the 90s, has raised some fears since its announcement. The film, scheduled for May 2023, is directed by Rob Marshall (Chicago), a regular at the Disney studio and musicals, since he directed Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, Into The Woods and Mary Poppins Returns.

If the director’s choice did not cause any concern, that of the main actress, Halle Bailey, on the other hand, caused a lively controversy, because of his skin color. Indeed, if Ariel was white with red hair, Disney opted for a young African-American actress.

We therefore awaited with interest to discover the first images. Good news, the Disney studio unveiled the first teaser of the film, on the occasion of the D23.

After several shots showing the beauty of the seabed, we can see the young Ariel in the middle of her collection, with in the background the magnificent musical theme composed by Alan Menken for the 1989 film.
