The great test of energy comparators: it’s cacophony… but not for long

“Le Soir” has tested several sites to compare gas and electricity prices. Surprise: for the same price, the prices displayed vary greatly (sometimes by more than 1,000 euros) depending on the simulator chosen. An anomaly that will soon be rectified. Explanations.

VScompare rates, they said. This is the only way to ensure that its energy contract – in gas as in electricity – is competitive. And at a time when market prices are hovering at a (very) high level, choosing the right tariff plan is one of the few levers left in the hands of the consumer.

To help him in his choice, online comparators have multiplied in recent years. The evening selected a dozen of them (CompaCwape, BruSim, MonEnergie.be, Comparateur-Energie.be, Test-Achats and those of the suppliers Engie Electrabel, Luminus, TotalEnergies and Dats24) and subjected them to a small test, apparently simplistic . If the same information is entered (same locality, standard consumption of 3,500 kWh per year for electricity and 17,000 kWh for natural gas), do all the comparators provide the same classification? Answer: no. The differences are sometimes very significant (see infographic).
