We push the door of the Liemans bakery-pastry shop in Amay. Here, it smells good, customers line up and the saleswoman is all smiles. Yet today, all is not rosy. We meet the boss Emmanuel, who started working 14 hours earlier: “Yes, I start at 9 p.m. and I try to finish the next day at noon,” he tells us.

The bakery is his life. “A passion that was born when I was 14 years old. Yet my dad was a site supervisor and my mom worked at the post office. But it was my grandmother who passed on the love of baking to me. She did everything herself,” he smiles.
