All the Belgian crews based at Brussels airport have been summoned by the management for “important” news concerning the future of the airline in Zaventem, La Libre learned on Tuesday evening. The boss of the Irish carrier, Michael O’Leary, will also be in Brussels where he will give a press conference.

Last Thursday, Mr. O’Leary had threatened to close his second Belgian base, complaining in particular about the new federal tax on passengers and the increase in airport prices.

“Zaventem airport is one of those bases that we are looking at very closely. I cannot guarantee that we will not close it this winter”said Michael O’Leary. Before adding: “We are also thinking of withdrawing planes from Charleroi. Our planes will go where there is growth and where our low-cost model is facilitated. If we have a better deal with another airport, we will move”.

The Irish company still has two planes based at Brussels Airport and fifteen at Charleroi. A few days ago. The pilots have received their timetables for this winter season, suggesting that Ryanair will remain in Zaventem. But the summons received this Tuesday showers the hopes of the crews.
