The British actor died in a hospital near his home in the Scottish town of Larbert, his agent told British media on Friday. The cause of death has not yet been announced. The actor, whose real name is Anthony Robert McMillan, played half-giant Hagrid, the Hogwarts gardener, in the Harry Potter films. He was adored by children all over the world for his interpretation of this nice, clumsy half-giant with a very full beard, who helps the young wizard and his friends in their adventures at the school of wizards.

In reality, he was 1.86m tall, but for the purposes of the film special effects and special effects gave the impression that he was much taller.

Earlier this year, when reuniting with the Harry Potter saga on HBO Max, he spoke fondly of the impact she had had on his life. “The legacy of these films is that my children’s generation will show them to their children. So you could easily still watch them 50 years from now. I won’t be there then, unfortunately….but Hagrid the will be.”

The author of the Harry Potter saga, JK Rowling, hailed his “incredible talent” on Twitter. “I was beyond lucky to know him, to work with him, and to laugh to tears with him,” she said.

Robbie Coltrane, who had two children, starred in over 50 films. He has also been seen in the James Bond films GoldenEye (1995) and The World Is Not Enough (1999), where he played a Russian mobster and ex-KGB agent, and in Ocean’s Twelve (2004), among others . The actor won three BAFTAs, Britain’s top film and television awards, for his role in the series Cracker.
