Johnny Cadillac, you are the double of Johnny Hallyday, your idol for many years. Have you already met him?

I took binges with him! I knew him, the guy. I had a friend who worked at Papagayo in Saint-Tropez and I asked him if he didn’t have a job for me. Luckily, he was looking for a bartender. I didn’t know that was the place Johnny loved to hang out. One morning, while I was working, I heard: “Bartender, can you put me a little whiskey please”. I turn around, paralyzed… and I see Johnny… He arrived at 11 a.m. and at 7 a.m. the next day, we were still on the way with little whiskeys and completely drunk in the port of Saint-Tropez.

You almost stole his shoes…

One day I drove him back to his hotel room, he was so drunk he couldn’t get back to his car. He asks me to drive his Cadillac convertible when I was barely 15 years old. I took his boots off and almost stabbed him. I said to myself: can you imagine the trophy for a Johnny fan? And then I came to my senses: if I steal from him and tomorrow he comes back to the bar, he will hit me.

Do you remember the day you learned of his death, in December 2017?

Oh yes, I was with my girlfriend and I was sleeping. She came into the bedroom, she said give me a hug. She announced to me that he was gone and so immediately, I said to her, “who”? And there she mentions her first name. I burst into tears, I didn’t want her near me anymore. Johnny was my father, my brother, my pillar… When there was something wrong, I listened to Johnny. Unfortunately, I had a lot of girlfriends and all the girls had a Johnny song that reminded me of them. There are songs that I no longer listen to (laughs). You know, I still miss Johnny, I think about it every day. He wasn’t just a singer, he was much more.

Is being a double a real business?

Yes… But I announce to you that I stop next year. I’ve already told my biggest fans about it because I have a slew of them. I’m getting tired. I will certainly continue the concerts with the Vieilles Canailles… But you know, I am already 72 years old and it is time to rest.
