New iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro: Here’s how Apple wants to compete with the high-end Androids of 2022

That’s all the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro bring, 2022’s new high-end Android rivals

The day that many have been waiting for months has finally arrived: Apple has presented the new iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro after weeks of rumors, leaks and many details. This is the new generation of iPhone with which Apple intends to dominate the high-end phone market by the rest of 2022 and part of 2023, stealing the show from the best Android mobiles on the market.

This year Apple has worked on improving the photographic section of its flagship smartphones, as well as adding some functions already present in Android, such as the Always on Display mode or the satellite connection, which debuted a few days ago with the Huawei Mate 50.

Again, the family is made up of a total of four different models. However, Apple has decided to drop the ‘Mini’ variant and opt for a larger ‘Plus’ version of the iPhone 14. We’ll go over all the new things the new models bring with them, and what they offer compared to the most advanced Android models in the market.

iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus: two sizes and an already known processor

iPhone 14 Series

The iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus arrive in five different colors.

iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus are the two “base” variants of the new iPhone family. They arrive to take over from the iPhone 13, this time offering two different variants aimed at a different audience.

The iPhone 14 is the simplest model, with a 6.1-inch diagonal screen, a glass and aluminum body and a dual rear camera system.

As a novelty, there will be a “Plus” model, with a 6.7-inch screen. This is the first ‘Plus’ model released by Apple since the iPhone 8 Plus, and it’s here to try and fill the void of a big iPhone, albeit not as expensive as a ‘Pro Max’ model.

Both models share the same Apple A15 processor that last year’s iPhone 13 already had. And it is that, for the first time since doing something similar with the iPhone 5c, Apple has decided to leave the most powerful processor as an exclusive feature of the most expensive models of the family.

On top of that, since neither device has a screen with a variable refresh rate due to the lack of ProMotion technology, they don’t include the “Always on Display” mode which buyers of the one of the models in the series will appreciate. . “Pro”.

Its camera system retains the two 12-megapixel sensors. However, the main camera adopts the sensor used in last year’s iPhone 13 Pro, which is larger and capable of capturing higher quality images in low-light environments.

A curious detail to note is that the new iPhone 14 will no longer include a SIM card slot in its variants sold in the United States.

iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max: Apple’s most advanced, more expensive than ever

For their part, the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max are ready to dominate the high-end market based on brute force, with the most advanced specifications ever seen in an iPhone.

Among its main novelties, it is worth highlighting the use of an LTPO screen with a variable refresh rate between 1 and 120 hertz, which allows the possibility of using a much more efficient Always on Display mode, by not refreshing the screen once per second to display relevant information, such as weather, time or notifications.

The iPhone 14 Pro are the only ones to introduce significant changes in terms of design, since almost five years after the presentation of the iPhone X, Apple has removed the “notch” to bet on a double hole format on the screen . This will be ‘joined’ via software so it’s displayed as a single elongated hole, and inside is the camera for selfies and the array of sensors needed to operate the Face facial recognition system. ID.

iPhone 14 Pro

The iPhone 14 Pro ditches the notch in favor of a hole in the screen.

This hole has been called “Dynamic Island” and acts as a notification area, being able to vary its size and display different indicators or animations to, for example, warn if AirPods have been connected or confirm the use of Face ID to recognize the user. Face.

Likewise, the iPhone 14 Pro features a renewed Apple A16 processor manufactured in TSMC 3 nanometer format and associated with 6 GB of RAM. For the first time, in addition, we see an iPhone model with 2TB of internal storage.

The iPhone 14 Pro’s camera system has been overhauled to introduce, for the first time, a 48-megapixel resolution primary camera. In addition to allowing more detailed images to be captured, using a sensor like this enables video capture at 8K resolution, a feature that until now was exclusive to select Android smartphones.

In addition to the main sensor, there’s a secondary 12-megapixel camera with an ultra-wide-angle lens and a 12-megapixel telephoto camera with triple optical zoom.

On the other hand, Apple introduced for the first time the support of the satellite connection, aimed at reporting emergencies or sending SMSs when the device is in an area without mobile network coverage. It will be available in the US and Canada initially, and the service will be free for the first two years.
