During the conversation, the two women discussed the stereotypes that still exist around being a single woman in the public eye, especially a single mother, as well as what they were like as teenagers.

The Duchess of sussex tells that she was considered an “ugly duckling” by the other students of the school because physically she was different from the majority, explaining:Listen, maybe not conventional beauty as such – now maybe that would be considered beautiful – but voluminous, curly frizzy hair and a huge gap between my teeth…”, explained Meghan to give the context of what she went through.

She went on to explain that her datingImmaculate Heartan all-girls Catholic school, for middle and high school was a particularly difficult time in her life.I never had anyone to sit with at lunch. I’ve always been a little lonely, very shy and I didn’t know where I belonged“, specified the wife of prince Harry.

And, and so I thought, ok, so I’m going to become the president of the multicultural club and the president of the second class and the president of this club and the French club. And, and while doing that, I had lunchtime meetings. So I didn’t have to worry about who I was sitting with or what I was doing, because I was always very busy.

Meghan filled her free time with activities so as not to feel lonely…

“Always a spectator, watching things”

In response to this revelation, Kaling has Explain:It makes me very emotional. I’m glad people know that because I think people see you and they’re like, oh, my God, the wedding, the couture fittings for this and this and that. And I guess I certainly didn’t know about you. And it’s nice to know that.

The actress added that she also felt unattractive growing up as “overweight dark skinned girl with glasses in white boston suburbs never thought i was attractive“.

She continued:I went to high school without a boyfriend. I heard the girls talk about kissing, falling in love, losing their virginity. At University, the samenothing. Always a spectator, watching things. Besides, I learned a lot from that. You know, a lot of my shows right now are about young women and their desire and their excitement and their rejection, and I’ve learned a lot from that. I would even say that I ended up being lucky thanks to that, thanks to being this outsider.
