The day of the ceremony is approaching. Robert and Mary were supposed to say yes next week, but life finally pulled them apart.

Mary Marshall, 34, set off in pursuit of her pet who had slipped off its leash before being shot in the shooting that killed five people in Raleigh, North Carolina last Thursday.

Robert testifies to the last conversation they had on the phone, on NBC: “She said, ‘I need you to come home right now. Immediately. Scruff (our dog) lost his collar, and I just heard gunshots”. So Robert took his way home, and found himself in this scene of desolation. It was swarming with police, firefighters and rescue workers…

There, a policeman questions him, “They started asking about Mary’s tattoos. We knew. we understood… that she was gone. »

Very moved, he confided: “I loved it when she wrapped me in her arms and every time we hugged, she whispered in my ear before falling asleep: you are my favorite place” .

The suspect was apprehended after a lengthy manhunt and was taken to hospital in critical condition.

Despite his age, prosecutors plan to charge him as an adult, said Wake County District Attorney Lorrin Freeman. Law enforcement has confirmed that the suspect is the brother of 16-year-old James Roger Thompson, who was killed in the shooting.

Besides James and Mary Marshall, the other victims are Susan Karnatz, 49, mother of three, Nicole Connors, 52, and Gabriel Torres, 29, an off-duty police officer.
