King Felipe and Infanta Elena with their family following the disappearance of their cousin Sonia de Morales de Borbón-Dos Sicilias

King Felipe VI went to the funeral home on July 26, before starting his vacation in Mallorca. The Infanta Elena was also spotted at the scene, both coming to support part of their grieving family. One of their cousins, Sonia Morales de Borbón-Dos Sicilias died last Sunday at the age of 52.

King Felipe is expected in Majorca where he will spend a shortened vacation this year, at the Marivent Palace, with Queen Sofia. Some obligations also await him in Palma. Before leaving, King Felipe paid a last tribute to his cousin who died suddenly at the age of 52, who rests in a funeral home in Madrid.

Sonia de Morales de Borbón-Dos Sicilias was born in 1969, the third of five children of Princess Inès de Bourbon des Deux Sicilies and Luis de Morales. Princess Inès, Duchess of Syracuse and Grande of Spain is still alive. She herself is the daughter of Princess Alice of Bourbon-Parma and Alfonso of Bourbon-Siciles, Duke of Calabria, the former claimant to the throne of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies of the Calabrian branch. Upon Alfonso’s death, his son Carlos succeeded him as dynastic heir and Duke of Calabria. The latter, therefore Sonia’s uncle, was one of the best friends of King Juan Carlos, whom he considered his brother.

Princess Inès, first cousin of King Juan Carlos, was born 9th in the order of succession to the Spanish throne, her father being the nephew of King Alfonso XIII. She was also the first member of the royal family to legally divorce, a divorce recognized by John Paul II. Sonia de Morales Borbón-Sicilias married Santiago Romero-Jiménez y Ressendi with whom she had a son, then she remarried Alejandro García-Atance Leurquin with whom she had two children.

King Felipe was spotted at the M-30 Funeral Home, hugging some family members. Infanta Elena, who is currently vacationing in Mallorca with her children and Queen Sofia, has made the trip to the capital to be close to her bereaved loved ones.

We also saw Maria Zurita, the daughter of the Infanta Margarita and niece of Juan Carlos, who was in mourning. The Infanta Elena arrived, accompanied by her former personal secretary, Carlos García Revenga, who according to Vanitatis himself maintained a close friendship with Mencía de Morales, the deceased’s little sister. Princess Christine de Bourbon des Deux-Siciles was also present, as well as Princess Anne of Orléans, Dowager Duchess of Calabria.
