James Bond’s tuxedo already smells like mothballs for Idris Elba

Although it seems cut out for him, Idris Elba has never had the opportunity to put on the James Bond tuxedo until now. And unfortunately for him, the classiest of suits is already beginning to smell like mothballs.

In an interview with Variety, Barbara Broccoli, the producer of the 007 franchise, more or less closed the door in her face. Already, she began by specifying “We love Idris”, which generally does not bode well for the future. And it was confirmed. “The problem is that he (the secret agent, editor’s note) won’t be back for a few years, and when you do a casting for Bond, it’s a ten to twelve year commitment. So he has to ask himself if he really wants the role. Not everyone wants to do that. It was hard enough convincing Daniel Craig to take it.“He was in his early thirties at the time”immediately added the co-producer, George Wilson.

“With Daniel Craig, we discussed at this table to find out if he wanted to do it.e, says Barbara Broccoli. He replied, ‘Well, I will. I really want to be part of it, I want the full package.’ And he lived to regret it (laughs). But it’s a big commitment. It’s not just about showing up for a few months of filming.”

A roundabout way of making it clear that at 50, Idris Elba is probably not the future of the British secret service. And that the next 007 should be much younger and ready for the long haul.

As Pierce Brosnan said, “There are more men who have walked on the moon than actors who have embodied James Bond.” And that also marks much more durably. Especially since the two producers intend “reinvent” 007, as they had done with Daniel Craig. Bets remain open on the name of the future lucky winner, but Idris Elba’s odds have obviously fallen with the bookmakers.
