Prince Harry reportedly found it “difficult” to be in the company of Prince William over the past week. The two brothers, who have been estranged for several years, have been forced to spend time together since the death of their grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, on September 8.
A source close to Prince Harry told the sunday Times from London that, although being in each other’s company is “uncomfortable” for the brothers, “everyone does their best”.
The Prince of Wales, 40, and the Duke of sussex38, delighted royals fans last week when they appeared alongside their respective wives, Kate Middleton and Meghan marklein front of floral tributes and cards laid outside Windsor Castle in honor of the late monarch.
Tuesday, the elders “fab Four” apparently stood together as they sat down to dinner with the other members of the royal family after receiving the coffin of Queen Elizabeth II.
Saturday evening, they also watched – alongside their cousins - near the coffin of the deceased monarch.
Prince Harry wore his military uniform after obtaining special permission from King Charles III. He had been forced to wear civilian clothes at public events since the Queen’s death, as he was stripped of his military titles when he left royal office in 2020.
However, the Duke was said to have been ‘devastated’ to discover that his uniform had the initials”RE” from his grandmother scratched from his shoulder.
“He is heartbroken“, said a friend to the sunday Times from London. “Removing her grandmother’s initials seems very intentional“.
The two brothers also shared a brief encounter earlier this week when William – who was picking up children Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis from school – drove past his brother and Meghan while in another car . They reportedly passed each other, but then stopped, backed up, and rolled down their windows for a brief conversation.
Despite this fortuitous meeting, the truce seems temporary. A friend of the brothers revealed that the joint appearances “require effort” and that they both understood that it was necessary to show their “solidarity.“
“I don’t think it goes much further than that. There have been a few awkward moments this week“, said the source to the sunday Times from London. “I absolutely don’t have a sense of a deeper meaningful rapprochement or a sense that it’s there. is: things will mend.“
The brothers’ relationship has been frosty since at least 2019, when Harry shared in an interview that he and William were “definitely on different paths right now.“
Relations grew further when the Duke and Duchess of sussex – who left royal life in 2020 and moved to California – gave an interview with Oprah Winfrey that went viral last year.
