In LuxembourgDriving licenses dropped like flies

LUXEMBOURG – Speeding, alcoholism… the police confiscated many driving licenses this weekend.

Like every weekend, the Grand Ducal police tracked down bad drivers on the roads of Luxembourg. Sunday afternoon, the agents carried out speed checks under the Ehlerange tunnel, on the A13. As under all motorway tunnels in the country, the speed is limited to 90 km/h.

In all, 12 speeding tickets were recorded. And in nine cases, the speed limit had been exceeded by more than 30 km/h. Three permits were confiscated due to the extent of the overrun. The police point out in passing that such speeding “constitutes not only a violation of the highway code, but also dangerous behavior for oneself and for other road users”.

Too drunk to turn on his headlights

After speed, alcohol. It was a little after 6 p.m. when a security guard at a shopping center in Huldange reported a traffic accident. It did no damage, but the two drivers had a serious argument after the collision. The police intervened on the spot found that the person responsible for the accident was totally drunk and had hit a parked car while he was trying to park himself. His alcohol level was so high that he is now under a driving ban.

Later in the evening, around 9:30 p.m., a car was seen in the middle of the road, rue de Schifflange in Kayl. A patrol went to check the motorist. Who immediately admitted that he did not have a driver’s license and could not present vehicle documents, because he had just bought the car. He will not have been able to enjoy it for long, the prosecution having ordered the confiscation of the vehicle. A positive blood alcohol test crowned the list of offenses of this individual.

Finally, around 1 a.m., a driver was too drunk to think of turning on his headlights, rue des Bains in the capital. Officers stopped the vehicle to check the driver. Unsurprisingly, he had drunk way too much and was given a temporary driving ban.
