Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge opted for a slightly different vacation this year: they made the surprising decision to stay warm in the United Kingdom, rather than going abroad for the summer. But why did the royals decide this?

This summer, Prince William and his wife opted for a vacation that was somewhat different from other years. The Cambridge couple have decided to stay warm in the UK, rather than taking their family overseas. Amazing…

One of the reasons, reveals Hello Magazine, could be that Kate Middleton at an important event this week. The Duchess of Cambridge will compete with the British SailGP team in Plymouth in a ‘Commonwealth Race’ against their New Zealand rivals, ahead of the final day of the British Sailing Grand Prix.

According to the English magazine, Kate Middleton, who is known to be an avid sportswoman, will become a member of the British crew, working with the rest of the team to steer the boat at speeds of up to 50 knots (over 90 km/h) in a friendly race. While in Plymouth, Prince William’s wife will also visit the 1851 Trust, of which she is patron, to meet young people involved in the Trust’s activities to promote sustainability.

Moving in sight

The choice to enjoy the summer in the UK can also be explained by the extensive preparations the Duke and Duchess are making for their planned move to Windsor, Hello Magazine also reports. William, Kate and their three children Prince George, 9, Princess Charlotte, 7, and Prince Louis, 4, are reportedly leaving Kensington Palace for a quieter life in the countryside. George and Charlotte are also expected to start attending a new school in September.

This big move from London would allow the Cambridges to be closer to the Queen, who now lives permanently at Windsor Castle. As for Kate’s parents, Carole and Michael Middleton, as well as her brother James, they live in Berkshire, just a 40-minute drive from Windsor.

While the family will live in Windsor, William and Kate will continue to use Kensington Palace as a London base for their work.
