This Sunday, world leaders and foreign sovereigns are expected in the early evening at the reception hosted by King Charles III at Buckingham Palace in tribute to Queen Elizabeth II.
Prince Harry and Meghan markle learned they weren’t invited to the state reception after reading news reports, according to Page Six.
The Duke and Duchess of sussexwho joined the royal family last week after the death of Queen Elizabeth II in London, have received an invitation for the event which was to take place on Sunday evening, the site reports.
However, a spokesperson for King Charles III confirms to Page Six that “the invitation is reserved for active members of the royal family“.
“Harry and Meghan actually got the invite and no one told them they weren’t invited“, explains a royal source to Page Six.
“I’m told they found out they weren’t invited by reading press reports,” a source said.
US President Joe BidenFrench President Emmanuel Macron and Prime Minister Canadian Justin Trudeau are among heads of state expected to attend the reception, hosted by Charles and Queen Consort Camilla ahead of the Queen’s funeral on Monday.
Guests will also be welcomed by the Prince and Princess of Wales, the Princess Royal and the Earl and Countess of Wessex at the reception at Buckingham Palace.
On Saturday evening, Harry joined his brother, Prince William, and their cousins to watch the monarch, who rests in Westminster Hall. The King and his siblings held a vigil on Friday evening.
Throughout the week, sources close to the sussex insisted that the couple would do whatever is asked of them.
Harry – who was stripped of his military titles when Meghan markle and he stepped down from royal duties in January 2020 – was prepared not to wear his uniform to any events, but following a reversal from Buckingham Palace, the former army officer was able to wear his uniform to eventsa vigil Saturday.
“Prince Harry was simply ready to wear what his grandmother had planned. He’s focused on honoring her and that’s it.“
Queen Elizabeth II died aged 96 on September 8. His funeral will take place on Monday.
