The period of royal mourning is over in Britain. The royal palace announced it this morning on Twitter. The “Royal Morning“was in force since September 9. During this period, members of the royal family could not exercise their official functions except in case of necessity. They also had to appear dressed in black in public. Since this Tuesday morning, they can therefore resume their normal duties.

Prince William, accompanied by his wife Kate, therefore made his first trip to Wales on Tuesday since he took over the title of Prince of Wales, held before him by his father, who became King Charles III.

The eldest son of Charles III was scrutinized by the British media as the passing of the title to William has reignited resentments in Wales, where some believe that the title of Prince of Wales should be granted to a Welshman, which does not has not been the case since 1282. In three weeks, more than 35,000 people have signed a petition to remove the title which constitutes, according to them, as “an insult to Wales and a symbol of historic oppression“.

There were also questions about the Crown’s willingness to hold an investiture ceremony for William as grand as that held for his father in 1969. But the heir to the throne would not “any kindplans to do so, British media said on Tuesday, adding that he would rather focus on boosting the confidence of the people of Wales.

William and Kate visited Holyhead in Anglesey, located in the north of the country, before traveling to Swansea. The royal couple had promised to surrender”as soon as possible“on Welsh soil after the death of the Queen for”build trust and respect” they have for the Welsh. They were already present there in June for the festivities in honor of the 70 years of reign of Elizabeth II. The royal couple first visited the staff of the rescue station of Holyhead and then spoke with several business representatives from the area.

William and Kate were warmly welcomed by a large crowd when they arrived on the island. “Diolch (note, it means ‘thank you’ in Welsh) Anglesey! What a welcome, it’s good to be back“, rejoiced the couple in a message posted on their Twitter account.

Kate, aware of the heritage associated with this title, worn before her by Princess Diana, darling of the British, hopes to create “his own way“in his new role, had indicated a source within the royal family to the british media when she had received it.
