Faced with TikTok, Instagram is changing its platform

The American social networks want to dethrone the Chinese giant.

Faced with Chinese competition, Instagram is changing its options to always captivate more people. Also, the social network of the Meta group wants to model itself on the very principle of Tiktok, namely the short videos which follow one another. Also, after integrating the Réels in 2020, short and entertaining videos, Instagram decided to standardize this format for all videos on its platform (less than fifteen minutes). Currently, this feature only applies to videos under 90 seconds.

It should be noted for users that these videos will be able to circulate everywhere on Instagram, and even be recommended. Therefore, anyone with a public account will be affected by this phenomenon.“As Reels provide a more immersive and entertaining way to watch and create videos on Instagram, we are also bringing these creative tools and the full-screen experience to your video posts”the platform said in its blog post.

But this evolution of the social network is far from pleasing everyone. A petition has even emerged asking that ” Instagram becomes Instagram again “. In other words, to stop trying to be TikTok. “We have TikTok for a reason, and let’s face it, the only Reels uploaded are recycled TikTok and content the world has seen before”can we read in the petition which has already been signed by nearly 130,000 people.
