In a report broadcast on Tuesday, September 6, 2022 in the 20 hour newspaper of TF1, our colleagues discussed the subject of rising prices. Indeed, inflation has not only impacted food and fuel but also electricity and gas.
To deepen the discussion, they mentioned the duration of the tariff shield. Indeed, the State implemented a tariff shield in the fall of 2021. This is to cushion the inflationary impact of rising fuel prices.
This tariff shield therefore clearly helped the French since the onset of inflation. But can this shield be extended beyond December 31, 2022? We tell you everything!
Rise in electricity and gas prices
Electricity prices continue to rise and this doesn’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon. While energy shortages are feared by the government for this winter of 2022.
The increase in gas and electricity prices worries the French more. Indeed, energy prices of all kinds are of great concern to the French, who do not know if they will be able to answer to the needs of their households.
A large part of the population wonders how much it will have to spend on electricity in 2023. In a report broadcast on TF1’s 8 p.m. newspaper on Tuesday September 6, 2022, our colleagues addressed the subject by focusing on the price shield.
Thus, the question that remains at the end of the lips seems: Will it be extended in 2023 ? The answer is yes ! And this, beyond December 31. It must be said that this measure, put in place by the government, has enabled many French people to save money.
This year, the increase in the price of electricity should have been 40%. Thanks to the government, the increase for the French was only 4%. For gas, the price could have exploded by 80%but it remained at last year’s level, announces the voice-over of the TF1 report.
If the government takes the decision to end the tariff shield in January 2023, the electricity bill will increase by an average of 120 euros per month. For gas, you will have to pay almost 180 euros per month.
The tariff shield
This aid clearly benefited the French. Indeed, in the newspaper Les Echos, the Minister of the Economy Bruno Le Maire indicated: Without the tariff shield, the increase in gas tariffs and electricity would be at least 100% next year!
Or an increase in the electricity bill of 120 euros on average per month and per household. For the moment, no amount has been officially announced by the French government. However, one thing remains certain!
This tariff shield is fine reduce increases for all French people. This is what Bruno Le Maire, the French Minister of Economy, Finance and Industrial and Digital Sovereignty said: In January 2023, as in October 2021, there will be an increase in the price of gas, a increase in the price of electricity, but I promise you that it will be contained and bearable.
He also confirmed that the French will also be able benefit from the new energy voucher as additional help. As a reminder, six million French people were able to receive it, with amounts between 48 and 227 euros.
Its future amount will then be discussed in Parliament. And the TF1 report explains that it could be paid to more households. It should be noted that, so far, the tariff shield has cost the French State more than 16.5 billion euros.
