A few days ago we relayed to you an interview of Shuntaro Furukawathe president of Nintendo, published by the Japanese site Nikkei (see here.) We learned a lot of interesting information, in particular that despite a difficult situation (mainly linked to the shortage of components) Nintendo was not planning to increase the price of the nintendo-switch or even that the Nintendo Switch – OLED Model was currently the least profitable model for Nintendo… But there was also another surprising piece of information: if Nintendo intends to sell nearly 21 million of Nintendo Switch during this fiscal year (ranging from from April 2022 to March 2023) Nintendo does not risk for the moment to make the slightest forecast for the following year. A priori the production prospects are not clear for 2023/2024 and they are even “uncertain” at this stage. However, at spring 2023the console should host a major blockbuster with Zelda BOTW 2the long-awaited sequel to Breath of The Wild. So certainly, Nintendo fans will have noted that it is the only Nintendo game currently known and that we are therefore also missing from the switch catalog from January 2023.
So what can we deduce from this? Difficult at this stage to make any predictions. nintendo can simply be cautious (even worried) or simply not want to reveal their plans for the moment… We know that there is a good chance that the release of Zelda BOTW 2 is done on two consoles of different generations like Zelda: Breath of The Wild and that we will therefore probably have to wait until the beginning of next year to see more clearly. In the meantime, don’t hesitate to tell us what you think in the comments.
(…) regarding our sales forecast of 21 million units for the fiscal year to March 2023, we only have a clear production outlook for this year. Beyond that things are uncertain
