By leasing parking spaces on the Caterpillar site which they manage, the Region and Igretec, shareholders of Charleroi airport, are creating competition for the latter’s parking activity.

On repeats since the beginning of the summer, the airports have found a large part, if not more, of their summer passengers. It was time. Some were in difficult financial situations. Charleroi Airport was one of them, after two years under pandemic travel restrictions. To regain balance, the airport needs all its sources of income, among which the rental of parking spaces for passenger cars is a solid base. But also subject to stiff competition. Many alternatives are springing up regularly to offer (slightly) cheaper parking places, (slightly) further away but connected by shuttles included in the price. For years, therefore, there has been a kind of hunt for wild, clandestine or illegal parking on the part of the airport.
