This is a novelty which will become reality from January 1, 2023, as we revealed to you at the start of the year: in Belgium, all motorcycles over 125 cm³ or 11 kW exceeding the speed of 45 km/h (category L) will have to pass a technical inspection in the context of resale to a private individual or after an accident. Inspectors from approved motorcycle inspection centers will check the following points: vehicle identification, braking system, lighting, electrical circuit, wheels and tyres, suspension, steering and chassis as well as the noise.

“This technical control is the consequence of a European decision, compared to the 2014 directive which imposed a periodic control on these vehicles from January 1st. European states had the possibility of proposing an alternative solution; this is what Belgium decided, which proposed a post-accident check and a check for registration, ”explains to our colleagues at RTL-Info the deputy technical director of Auto-security, Philippe Nellissen. .

Please note, however, that not all technical control centers for cars will be approved for the control of motorcycles. They will be spread over the territory, but it will be advisable to inquire before making an appointment. In Wallonia, they are already known, these will be the resorts of Cuesmes, Eupen, Fleurus, Habay-la-Neuve, Marche-en Famenne, Mariembourg and Wanze.

The control will aim to check several elements such as brakes, tires or suspensions. “Anything that can cause accidents. »

The price of the control in Wallonia was set at €48.50.
