UpdateThe record Euromillions jackpot of 230 million was won on Tuesday in the United Kingdom, the British lottery Camelot announced on Wednesday. The “winner” came to claim his prize on Wednesday morning.

The “superjackpot” of 230 million euros was the biggest win ever since the creation of this European lottery. The previous record amount was 220 million and dated back to last October: a player from French Polynesia won a prize pool of 220 million euros.

No indication was communicated on the place where the winning ballot was wagered. It was also not specified whether it was a single winner or a group.

A Belgian multi-millionaire

It had been several draws in a row that no one had found the winning combination. If the record prize pool had not fallen on Tuesday evening, it would still have been put into play one last time on Friday and would then have been shared and distributed among those who found the five correct numbers and one star. Note that a Belgian is part of this description and won Tuesday evening just over 4.4 million euros.

The EuroMillions lottery is a draw game held in nine countries: Belgium, France, Spain, Portugal, Ireland, Austria, Switzerland, Luxembourg and the United Kingdom. In Belgium, the largest amount won dates from October 2016: at the time, a Brussels resident had won the tidy sum of 168 million euros.
